The Art of Appliance Service: An Appliance Blog

Welcome to my blog. When it comes to taking care of appliances, it can be an art. You have to use them correctly, know how to look for signs of trouble and understand how to do simple repairs. Hi, my name is Kelsey, and in this blog, I am going to write everything I know about appliances and related topics. This is my first blog, but I have written in many other types of venues before -- I'm even old enough to have had a 'zine (if you can believe that). I live with my husband, my three daughters, and our dog. Cleaning pet hair of of the dryer and repairing blades on the blender has become my specialty over the years. Enjoy reading!

Don't Ignore Fridge Repairs And Assume They're Nothing Serious

Leevi Saari

If you notice a small issue happening with your refrigerator, you might not feel like having someone out right away. If you think you can get away with putting off the repairs for a little while, then you may be tempted to do so. However, if you decide to procrastinate on making that call to get someone out, then you could end up really regretting the decision shortly after making it. Here are three different things that you may end up dealing with because you didn't take the refrigerator issue seriously enough when you first noticed it happening:

You may need a whole new refrigerator

If you don't know how to repair refrigerators, then you may not know the difference between the warning signs of a minor fridge issue and a major one. This means, while you thought you were just putting off a minor repair, you may in fact be ignoring something far more serious than you had imagined. You may have been able to have the problem fixed with the replacement of a part or two before. However, things can end up with the repairs needing such extensive work, it's best to completely replace it in order to have a working refrigerator again. This means you may be looking at a very large sum of money, instead of an affordable repair call.

You can end up with a kitchen full of rotten food

If you ignore the issue and take off for a couple of days or so, then you may come home to a house that smells like rotten trash. When you open the refrigerator door, the source of that horrible smell will become apparent. You may find your fridge, and even your freezer, with food that's now gone bad. You'll need to remove all of it from your home and throw it away, figure out how to get the foul odor out of your home, and possibly need to pay for more expensive repairs now or pay for a whole new fridge.

You can end up with serious electrical issues

If the issue going on has to do with the wiring or an electrical component, then putting off such a repair can be very dangerous. It can cause a risk of someone being shocked, or of there being a fire that happens due to a spark or something like an overheated compressor. This is why you should never consider an appliance repair issue to be a minor one if you don't have the experience and knowledge to really make such a call.
